Grand Country House

This particular country house is extremely large scale. Yvonne had worked on it previously for the clients; but the clients wanted to develop the house further so that their home had more atmosphere. They wanted a special GRAND COUNTRY HOUSE.

The grand entrance and hallway sets the formal feel for what is to come elsewhere. Plain walls were replaced with hand printed wallpaper and the old red carpeting replaced with a more relaxed bordered neutral wool.

Accessorising here was crucial and needed to fit in with the scale. Yvonne included large scale planted urns and huge fig trees to relax the formality of the space.

The formal sitting room is a long large room perfect for entertaining. The curtains and light fittings were previously installed by Chameleon 10 years ago and they were the starting point for the refurbishment. The new layout enables it to be used as a whole space or smaller separate more intimate spaces when there are fewer guests. Linens, velvets and silks have been mixed using a subtle blue/ grey neutral colour theme. Brass lamps and cabinets combined with mirror and glass add interest and a hint of luxury to the understated design of the space. Although the scheme hints at grandeur it combines comfort and calmness too.

The TV room has a totally different feel. Richer in colour and texture. Here Yvonne designed new bookcase units which also house the integrated TV and sound system. New Versailles design parquet flooring was included in the refit. Some old pieces of furniture were reupholstered alongside new custom pieces.

The dining room with the same new flooring also houses a custom made large scale cabinet for all their dinner service and cutlery. Hand printed wallpaper covers the walls with plain braided wool curtains. Yvonne used a mix of the original antique pieces with French painted furniture to create a soft light delicate space.

The next phase of the house will be completed in 2022.
